COVID-19 Human Services Update a) Presentation Currently, due to the spread of COVID-19, all regularly-scheduled council and committee meetings will be held as necessary via video-conference. City hall is closed to the public and, therefore, no in-person comments will be accepted. Monetary support for the Meal Coalition —past 6 years Monetary support to assist in sustaining operations —$300l<+for past five years Established the Center of Hope day shelter in City Hall for women and children Provided a Temporary Use Permit —300 Rainier building for the homeless feeding program Former Councilmember coordinated major food donations i-2 times a month AGENDA ITEM #1. a) City of Renton Community Services Department Pre Covid —l9 Divisions within the department coordinate,assist,and provide resources to our homeless or near homeless population: Human Services —The main source of coordinating a multitude of resources, Information,and connecting partners. REACH Shelter /St.Matthew’s Church and Highlands Neighborhood Community Center (Renton Clients) ARISE Men's Shelter (Renton Clients)/Quality Inn,Sea Tac *Red Lion Clients have increased the need for law enforcement,life safety,and food resources in Renton. King County Shelter (Seattle Clients)/Red Lion Hotel,Renton AGENDA ITEM #1. a) CENTER OF HOPE TEMPORARY SHELTER Highlands Neighborhood Center Center of Hope is now providing 24/7 shelter for women,children,and families versus its model prior to COVID-l 9 as a day shelter. City of Renton coordinated a temporary site for the Center of Hope for exclusive use of the Highlands Neighborhood Center. 28 individuals at the center (most are children) Shower access at the RCC has been coordinated for Center of Hope in conjunction with their use of St.Matthew's Church. Expand to include the Highlands Library and bring needed resources and services to the areas where vulnerable populations are most likely to trequent. Work with community groups like lntertaith Task Force on Homelessness to develop remedies to best serve and mediate homelessness at the source. Continue to seek new tunding streams to support Rental Assistance,Utility Assistance, and Low-lncome Housing.
