1. COVID-19 Human Services Update
a) Presentation
Currently, due to the spread of COVID-19, all regularly-scheduled council and committee meetings will be held as
necessary via video-conference. City hall is closed to the public and, therefore, no in-person comments will be
accepted. Residents are encouraged to participate in a variety of ways.
1) Residents may submit comments in advance to cityclerk@rentonwa.gov.
2) Residents may view the meeting live on Renton Channel 21.
3) Residents may view the proceedings streaming live at http://rentonwa.gov/streaming.

The City has provided REACH(Renton Ecumenical Assoc.of Churches)—
direct funding and in—kind support.REACH is the only organization in
Renton that provides day &night shelter for women,children,and families.
Monetary support for the Meal Coalition —past 6 years
Monetary support to assist in sustaining operations —$300l<+for past five
years
Established the Center of Hope day shelter in City Hall for women and
children
Provided a Temporary Use Permit —300 Rainier building for the homeless
feeding program
Former Councilmember coordinated major food donations i-2 times a

Partner with local churches and organizations for transitioning services

Provide free or reduced cost access to programs for Renton youth and
Center of Hope families

in need up to 75%.

DURING COVID -19 STATE ORDERED SHUTDOWN
Due to Covid-l 9 health concerns,a 24/7 model has been activated by agencies
serving homeless populations.City of Renton Human Services has assisted in
coordinating access with REACH and ARISE programs.
REACH Shelter /St.Matthew’s Church and Highlands Neighborhood
Community Center (Renton Clients)
ARISE Men's Shelter (Renton Clients)/Quality Inn,Sea Tac
*Red Lion Clients have increased the need for law enforcement,life safety,and
food resources in Renton.
King County Shelter (Seattle Clients)/Red Lion Hotel,Renton AGENDA ITEM #1. a)
CENTER OF HOPE TEMPORARY SHELTER
Highlands Neighborhood Center
Center of Hope is now providing 24/7 shelter for women,children,and families versus its
model prior to COVID-l 9 as a day shelter.
City of Renton coordinated a temporary site for the Center of Hope for exclusive use of the
Highlands Neighborhood Center.
28 individuals at the center (most are children)
Shower access at the RCC has been coordinated for Center of Hope in conjunction with
their use of St.Matthew's Church.
Recreation &Neighborhood Division staff have provided:
Sports equipment for use of the gym
Toddler push toys,and arts and crafts supplies
Donated boxes of diapers and wipes to help keep families as comfortable as possible AGENDA ITEM #1. a)

Homelessness Outreach Plan 202i
Continue to build upon the highly successful Homelessness Community Resource Event.
Expand to include the Highlands Library and bring needed resources and services to the
areas where vulnerable populations are most likely to trequent.
Work with community groups like lntertaith Task Force on Homelessness to develop
remedies to best serve and mediate homelessness at the source.
Continue to seek new tunding streams to support Rental Assistance,Utility Assistance,
and Low-lncome Housing.
Working towards establishing a permanent location and structure to support the Meal
Coalition,Severe Weather Shelter,and multi-service center including mental health
