ArboristNW was charged with determining any affects or impacts to trees in relation to proposed
construction at the Huyhn short plat site. Two certified arborists met on site to review the situation and
advise on tree protection measures.
ArboristsNW was told that the new driveway would be within 2' of the existing fence on the northside of
the property, with the goal of leveling the driveway. We advise raising the grade in the low spots rather
than digging down. Most tree roots are in the top 1-1.5' of the surface and such a proximity as desired
for the edge of the new drive would severally damage, destabilize or kill the roots and trees on the
neighboring property.
We recommend adding not more than 6" of overlay to level the driveway. Adding more fill would
require the addition of a ventilation system to minimize the impact on the encroaching root systems.
See this link for a general idea of what it would entail,
https://aggiehorticulture.tamu.edu/earthkind/landscape/protecting-trees/.
Once it is determined which grade you will be aiming for, we will design a system for this location if
needed.
Soil compaction in our opinion will not be a concern as the route is the original driveway and is
compacted now.
There are 2 fruit trees, one on the eastern end of the property and one behind the existing home. If
these trees are to be retained the protection areas around them would be at 10'.
2 trees one a dual trunk specimen are located on the west end of the property. As these trees are close
to each other if retained the protection zone around these trees would at 15' the dripline of the trees.
