Hello, My name is Matt Nielsen. I live in Seattle, WA and recently read about the newly proposed legislation regarding the clarifying of hotel, social service organizations, and diversion facility land use definitions, amongst other things, in Renton. To me, the idea of kicking unhoused people out of secure shelter during the middle of a pandemic, especially when temperatures will be plummeting quickly, is unconscionable. I understand that the situation at the Red Lion Hotel are not ideal, however the proposed alternative is much worse. Yes, crime has gone up, but death and disease will also increase, not only amongst the homeless population but the Renton community as a whole, if this ordinance passes and unhoused people are sent back to the streets. Please consider these points and vote on the side of compassion for our most vulnerable brothers and sisters. Thank you. -- Matt Nielsen (206)295-7574 DeckerNielsen@gmail.com
