Mayor Pavone and Renton City Council, Both my husband and I have emailed giving our support for the emergency ordinance adopting zoning controls and changes to the City codes that will help protect your longtime Renton citizens. We have lived and paid taxes in the City of Renton for the past 43 years. To see the deterioration of our City is very upsetting. As a member of the community, that you have been elected to serve, please take this into consideration: we have an adult disabled son. He lives in downtown Renton. He works in Renton. He pays taxes in Renton but He is fearful of living in Renton because of the crime, loitering, drug dealing, filth that is a 24 hour per day issue. His safety is our priority, I’m asking for it to be your priority also. I’m not sure what neighborhood you live in, but I encourage you to go to the downtown Safeway. Walk around downtown, imagine that walking or bus use is your only means of transportation. Go stand at the bus stop, go to the transit center, especially after dusk wait for a bus then board it and ride it. While you’re doing that, look at what you see! How do you feel? Safe? To Council member Van and McIrvin, how does changing the number of people at the hotel effect your Renton constituents? How does pushing the dates out further effect our City, your long time residents, your constituents? With your concerns about COVID-19, how will you protect your long time residents, your constituents? I heard your concerns for the residents of the Renton Red Lion Hotel but I did not hear your concerns for your constituents, the longtime residents of Renton with real concerns about health and safety. I urge you to pass the Emergency Ordinance and that it be the start of your decision making to improve the safety in the City of Renton for your constituents.
