Good morning,
As a family medicine physician in Renton I am very concerned about and oppose Ordinance 5996. I work every day with patients experiencing homelessness, and this
ordinance will harm both people experiencing homeless and the entire Renton community. To close the existing shelter in the Red Lion Hotel during the middle of the
coronavirus pandemic is unconscionable and only makes it harder for people who are already at very high risk of serious illness from COVID19 to maintain social
distance and prevent the virus from spreading throughout our entire community. The ordinance makes it far too difficult to create new shelters in Renton, and experts
believe this ordinance will effectively eliminate safe shelter for people experiencing homelessness in Renton. Please vote no on Ordinance 5996.
Thank you,
