Subject: Boeing Co. Approval of relocation of waterline utilities
To: Ace Aviation
If the following conditions are met The Boeing Company (“Boeing”) will approve your request to
relocate the 12” water line, located on City-owned land, that feeds our Apron D leased area, ( See
Exhibit – attached Site Plan ). Boeing’s approval would be conditioned on the following
Ace Aviation will provide for Boeing’s review and approval plans for the relocation project,
including redlines, materials specified, testing specifications and calculations.
The proposed work must meet all applicable City utility requirements and the current edition of
the NFPA guidelines for buried fire mains.
Contractor shall pothole and verify pipe location, de pth, material, and condition prior to
beginning work. The preliminary plans that Boeing has seen show existing pipe as ductile iron.
However, record drawings indicate that the existing pipe is welded steel. The contractor will
verify existing material prior to ordering new material.
Prior to beginning work, the contractor shall determine fittings required for connection to
existing pipe and provide a materials submittal for Boeing’s approval. Work will not begin until
Boeing provides its approval (which will not be unreasonably withheld, conditioned, or delayed
Ace Aviation will present a shutdown request to the Boeing Renton shutdown committee at
least 2 weeks prior to the planned shutdown, including expected downtime duration and a
contingency plan provided in the event of system damage or delayed utility shutdown beyond 7
calendar days. The shutdown committee meets on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 8:00
am. Call-in details will be provided. The work will not begin until the shutdown committee h as
given its approval.
We request that the contractor use proper flushing of piping to ensure that foreign materials are
removed. It is imperative that the pipe be protected from any debris during installation as
serious damage to the system may occur without proper precautions.
Boeing will have the opportunity to inspect and examine piping before it is connected to the
system and again before the new pipe is covered. If Boeing has an objection or a concern at
either such point in the process, the parties will meet to resolve such objection or concern.
Boeing will have the right to witness pressure testing of the system.
All the work in question will be performed at no cost to Boeing.
Boeing’s review, examination, and/or approval of any element of thi s project will not constitute
a guarantee or warranty of any kind. The design, workmanship, and materials used in this
project are and remain the responsibility of Ace Aviation, City of Renton, and the contractors
they have hired to design and perform thi s work and to provide the materials required
