In June of 2013, City of Renton authorized our company, Tax Recovery Services, LLC to do an audit
on TracFone, Inc. This court has determined that TracFone is a telephone business subject to telephone
utility tax in the City of Renton as outlined in RCW 35A.82.060.
The timeline of the audit went like this:
• Opened in June of 2013;
• an estimated tax, which was never addressed or acknowledged by TF, was sent in December
2013;
• a subpoena (which was not complied with during the time allotted) was sent in May of 2015;
• revenue data (missing one requested zip code) from TF began arriving in June of 2015;
• these were re-sent, this time with all requested zip codes included in June 2017.
• The last portion of needed information was supplied to TRS in June 2017,
• and the first draft of the assessment was sent for TF’s perusal in August 2017.
• An assessment schedule with improved population numbers was sent several days later.
• The assessment was finally sent out a year and a half later, on February 2019.
