RECREATlON SUP€RVlSOR: Shavsrn Daly Shawn acknowledged the Advisory Board officers for the goad ,}ob they are daing. !n additian he also thanked a!I who participated in The Renton Rivec ' - Days Parade and the Senior Picrzic. Both were great successes thanks in part to the volunteers wrho gave o#their time and effort. To give a cecap on the.. . question of attendance and music,we have a limit of St�tickets available and . they usually sell aut #he week befare the picnic. Normal attendance is generally around 43t�450. Regartling the music most camments vvere very positive from thase attendjng. Many people were on the dance floor wt�ich wouid indicate they iiked tF�e'music. Ne7ct year we wiii.try to make the dance floor larger to accommodate more people. This was so popular last year we decided to offer it again this year. Tuesday August 18th 11:00 am—12:00 pm Regional Reduced Fare Permit/Orca , Card representative will be at the center. Wednesday August 19�'10:00 am—11:30 am the Book Club meets and will be reviewing"A Thousand Splendid Suns",author Khalid Hosseini: � Thursday August 20�'12:30 pm—4:30 pm will be the first of the A.A.R.P. Driver Safety Programs. Second session is on August 27rt'. Thursday August 20"'1:00—3:00 pm is Thursday Afternoon Dance with Bonnie Birch. � Friday August 25�'come and enjoy National Banana Split Day. Contest at 11:15 and lunch served at 11:30. This event is sponsored by Merrill Gardens. You � must have a lunch ticket to participate_ Thursday August 27�' 10:00 am - 4:30 pm we have the Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad trip. A 2 hour steam train exclusion through the forest and foothills. A box lunch will be provided. There has been some confusion regarding the iVew Comers Hour. Previously it was available on Thursdays but has.been changed#o Fridays _DIRECTOR/ADMINISTRAYOR REPORT—Kris Stimpson Kris reported she rode the new van during the Renton River Days Parade. It �m'� was fun following the Duck. This coming Saturday August 22"d is the Grand `-+ Openi�g of the new downtown library. Come and see the new beautiful library and enjoy hamburgers and hotdogs served outside. The Highlands library is scheduled to open late October or early November. The,Renton beaches and the pool close on Labor Day. ' ' WRITTEN and/or ORAL COMMUNICATION— � Pat requested that we combine the diagram that Milt distributed last meeting � . and the obsenration handout that Karla distributed last meeting. Karla spoke on the problems she encountered when riding the van to the Senior Picnic and other related problems encountered for people who use wheeichairs or walkers. Shawn Daly and Kris Stimpson responded to concerns that Karla brought up and said that they will look at the situation further and see what � resolutions might be possible: Milt Tiede explained the diagram he distributed at our'previous meeting. The diagram is a confguration to improve entrance and exit of the restrooms for seniors in wheelchairs or walkers. The many issues discussed regarding this subject were explained and Shawn Daly said the Renton Senior Activity Center is in compliance with the ADA. We will continue to work to accommodate all - seniors. � � . Cenfier RSVP had 541.5 h�urs and 41 volunteers, Nutrition RSVP hac! 331..5 hours a�d 17 vc�tunteers, Meats on 1Nheels had 2685 hours and 26 volt�nteefs . ` �}LD BUSINESS— , Pafi Baylor and Shawn Daiy had a discussion'befare the board meeting ` regarding y�ariy participation from tF�e Advisory Board in the Renton River , Days Parade. The flaor was apen far discussian and the consensus was we wil) continue to participate each year in the parade.
