Milt Tiede made a motion tfiat the agenda be used as printed, Peggy Budziu seconded and motion was passed.. APPROVAL OF AGENDA/MINUTES — The minutes for the October 6th meeting were read, correction noted and minutes were approved. . PRESIDENTS REMARKS: Milt Tiede will postpone his report until the November 3�d meeting. Debbie Little had spoken to Marge Cochran and reported to the committee the final results of running the 2 X 3 inch ad in the Renton Reporter. That information will be e-mailed to President � Pat Baylor. � TREASURER REPORT:Sandra Polley Bank balance as of 10/16/14 $18,945:39 RECREATION SUPERVISOR: Shawn Daly � Shawn introduced Todd Black City of Renton who works with the�Parks Department and is involved in park planning. He is Natural Resources and Capital Projects Coordinator. There has been a need for some time for upgrading of the lighting around the Renton Senior Activity Center. Todd presented a chart that detailed where the new lighting will be installed. Todd clarified questiQns som.e board members had and gave dates and etc. for completion of the light installation.The up-grade will have 23 new lights around the outer facility. Shawn had a check for the treasurer from Sylvester Cugini for$2000.00 that goes for Bingo at the Senior Center. � ioT� The Volunteer Dinner will be held Dec.�'at 4:00 P.M.—6:00 P M. The dinner is complimentary to volunteers but if you are bringing a guest that ticket is $10.00. A gentleman two years ago made a donation of$12,500:00 specifically to acknowledge volunteers here at the center. We present the proposal to him regarding the dinner and he must approve that proposal. The Lodge at Eagle Ridge is holding their Falling Leaf Festival on Nov. 7th from 11:00 A.M.—3:00 P.M. They have inquired if we would like to man a booth at the festival. Shawn asked for volunteers and Bill Clapp and Milt Tiede will man the booth from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. and then Peggy Budziu and Kay Stone will man the booth from 1:00 P.M.—3:00 P.M. � - � T� � � Page 2 cont. ' Shawn was requested to put together an informal piece for the Renton Reporter that would go � along with the ad. Shawn is working on that and is doing a piece about volunteers at the center. When Shawn has completed the piece he will e-mail it to Sandy Polley and if approved it will be sent to the Renton Reporter. Shawn received correspondence from the Pema Medical Institute Respiratory therapy program. They were asking for volunteers who would act like they have respiratory problems. If anyone is interested in doing this please get back to Shawn and he will provide further information. The Transportation Fair was held on Oct. 11th. The fair is run by the Renton Housing Authority and Shag. Turnout this yearwas only fair, it drew only 35 people. - A second fraud seminar was held on Friday October 17th. The seminar is sponsored by the First Saving Bank NW. The attendance this time was below expectation. � The center will be opened Thanksgiving Day for the annual Rotary Club thanksgiving dinner. Shawn asks for volunteers through the City of Renton employee's and generally the response is � between 20-25 volunteers.Approximately 250 senior citizens take advantage of this dinner. The , Rotary Club has been doing this for 20 years. RECREATION COORDINATOR—Debbie Little � � Debbie wish to thank those who are taking Lisa's class on Brain Fitness. Lisa developed this . program on her own and response has been very positive from those who ar.e attending. � Wednesday Oct. 22"d we have a trip to Fall City to visit the Treehouse Point. They offer overnight _ stays and we will be looking at their various accommodations. Tuesday Oct. 215t there will be a Presentation: Hearing Loss and Assistive Devices. � Wednesday Oct. 22"d at 7:00 P.M..— 8:00 P.M. speaker Dan Kellogg will present a program, "Planning for Retirement—Legal Issues". ' The first of the AARP Smart Driver program starts Thurs. Oct. 23�d and the s�cond class is Oct. 30th. �Unfortunately the Genealogy programs had to be cancelled. The cost made it prohibitive for many people. Wednesday.Oct. 23�d we will be attending the Paramount Theater presentation of Bea.uty and • the.b���l � The Holiday Craft Bazaar is Saturday October 25th 9:00 A.M.—3:00 P.M. The opportunity of the center being open Wednesday evening is having a slow response. The Pool Room is drawing 4-5 new people. And the Fitness Room has had a couple of new people: Hopefully word will spread and attendance will pick�up. , � f � � _.� Page 3 cont. - , � DIRECTOR/ADMINISTRATOR REPORT—Mary lane Ortiz The annual "Truck or Treating Event" sponsored by the city if being held.Friday, October 24th 6- 8:30 P.M. at the Renton Community Center. Trucks representing Stoneway Concrete Mixer,The Seafair Clowns bus, an Antique Fire Truck, Police Units, City of Renton's Public Works trucks and more. Families will come inside the Renton Community Center for a viewing of the Halloween � cartoon, "Scared Shrekless".Any and all entrance requires a$5 registration fee for both children � and adults. � WRITTEN and/or ORAL COMMUNICATION— Bill Clapp ask that his sub-committee people be available for a meeting Friday Oct. 24th. The time � to be determined. Shirley Haddock reported on the Heath Services forthe third quarter 2014. Total participates for foot care, blood pressure and equipment loan was 620. " , • Milt Tiede requested that e-mail addresses be included on the Advisory Board Directory. Milt passed a sheet around for members to give their e-mail addresses. Bill Clapp inquired about the inability to get`the parade on channel 21.
