CITY OF RENTON POLICE DEPARTMENT
LATERAL OFFICER INCENTIVE PROGRAM AGREEMENT
This agreement is entered into this _____ day of ______ 20__, by the City of Renton Police
Department, hereinafter referred to as the "RPD" and ____________________, hereinafter
referred to as the "Candidate".
RECITALS
A.Whereas the RPD desires to attract and retain quality lateral candidates;
B.Whereas pursuant to RPD policy, lateral candidates who have been employed as a
commissioned officer on a full-time basis for a period of time exceeding 12 of the last 36
months at time of application and appointment are eligible for a $20,000.00 Lateral
Signing Bonus in exchange for a three year commitment with the RPD; and
C.Whereas,

the full Bonus under the circumstances provided herein.
AGREEMENT
Now, therefore, the City and Candidate do mutually agree as follows.
1.BONUS: RPD shall pay Candidate a $20,000.00 Bonus as follows:
a.$10,000.00 first paycheck after being formally
hired.
b.An additional $10,000.00 shall be paid to Candidate upon successful

2. EMPLOYMENT COMMITMENT. In exchange for the Bonus, Candidate agrees to
commit three years of employment with RPD.
3. REPAYMENT. Candidate agrees that if Candidate voluntarily resigns employment
with the RPD prior to fulfilling the three-year commitment and is hired by another
agency as a police officer within two months of resigning, Candidate will repay the
RPD the full amount of $20,000.00 Bonus (or $10,000 if Candidate resigns prior to
completion of the probation period). Unless a separate repayment agreement is
agreed to by the parties, repayment shall be made within 30 days of the date RPD
requests repayment.
The repayment amount will not be reduced by any taxes Candidate has paid as a
result of the Bonus and Candidate takes full responsibility for determining whether
Candidate may recover such previously paid taxes from the Internal Revenue Service
(or other taxing agency) as a result of repaying the Bonus.
The RPD may, in its sole discretion, waive all or a portion of the repayment only if it
determines upo

require Candidate to execute a release of any and all claims, known and unknown,
arising out of Candidate
4. ENTIRE AGREEMENT; MODIFICATION . This Agreement, together with attachments
or addenda, represents the entire and integrated Agreement between the RPD and
Candidate and supersedes all prior negotiations, representations, or agreements
written or oral. No amendment or modification of this Agreement shall be of any
force or effect unless it is in writing and signed by the parties.
5. SEVERABILITY. If any term, condition or provision of this Agreement is declared void
or unenforceable or limited in its application or effect, such event shall not affect
any other provisions hereof and all other provisions shall remain fully enforceable.

6. APPLICABLE LAW; VENUE; ATTORNEYS FEES. This Agreement shall be governed by
and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Washington. In the event
any suit, arbitration, or other proceeding is instituted to enforce any term of this
Agreement, the parties specifically understand and agree that venue shall be in King
County, Washington. The prevailing party in any such action shall be entitled to its
