Mike, Following up on RFI 25 (the pipe out of the school’s property), please confirm that our plan of attack is acceptable. This will entail: * Removing the concrete block and pipe between it and CB #10495. * Cutting back the existing concrete pipe another 5’ or so. * Installing approximately 10’ of 15” ADS pipe at approximately 1% to the west side of the sidewalk. Once exposed, we have two options and we won’t know which is the better one until it’s exposed. We can either: * Install a short (5’ or so) section of 15” ADS pipe with Fernco couplings on both ends to connect to the existing 15” concrete pipe. * Install a bend (likely a 22.5 or 11.25 degree) in the ADS pipe, a short section of pipe, and a Fernco coupling to connect to the existing 15” concrete pipe. I understand that the school district does not want to replace the existing concrete pipe or have the roots taken out now. The video starts at the structure on school property heading downstream to Union. There are several root intrusions at joints in the existing concrete pipe, including one at the last joint before CB #10495 at the deflection which appears to be covered with concrete. This would mean a slope of just over 2% if it had been laid correctly. However, it looks like the pipe was installed at 1% for about 55’ and a bend installed where the concrete block is. Mike, Following up on our call, we will remove the concrete block and pipe between it and CB #10495. We’ll also cut back the existing concrete pipe another 5’ or so. We will then install approximately 10’ of 15” ADS pipe at approximately 1% to the west side of the sidewalk. We’ll then install a 5’ section of 15” ADS pipe with Fernco couplings on both ends to connect to the existing 15” concrete pipe. The pair of bends sounds awkward, but the overall drop from the end of the concrete pipe to the invert at CB #10495 is only about 10” so it isn’t as bad as it sounds. Note that if the school district wants to replace the existing concrete pipe, now would be the best time to do so. Please confirm that this aligns with your understanding and we’ll get it completed. Once there is a preference, I will bring the revision to the water utility for review. For RFI 25 I need to do a little more digging and contact the school district. While the concrete block is located within the public ROW, the line is private, so any work/bending past the ROW line would require District approval. The Engineer of record will also need to be included in this revision as well. Please TV the line and create a profile between the public sdmh and private catch basin on school district property (they are currently doing a resurfacing project in the parking lot so access may not be an issue but if you do have access concerns I can reach out to the district). Lance has come up with some possible changes that would address this RFI and avoid impacts to the grid section and we are wondering if either of these would be acceptable to the City? RFI25 – I believe Pat called earlier this week to ask if there was any known use for the concrete block on the West side of Union Ave. It appears this block is being used to hold the storm line heading into the school property. As this is a City storm line we would like to ask for permission to remove the concrete block and adjust the storm line if needed to allow for the designed sidewalk grades in this area. For reference, the water level in the existing CB on the school’s property is approximately 15’ below the rim. If the watermain is ever extended, the wall and geogrid would be disturbed at that time. We propose to maintain the easement to the property line to allow for this connection. RFI 25: I don’t see any good solution other than to carefully break the concrete apart and expose the pipe. It may need to be replaced.
