PLANTING NOTES
- Contractor shall verify all existing site conditions prior to beginning
construction. Notify owner of any discrepancies, between plans and actual
field conditions.
- The contractor shall be responsible for any damage to existing utilities or
improvements. All repairs shall be made at no expense to the owner.
The contractor shall notify the owners representative prior to beginning
construction, and shall keep the owner informed of progress of Work
throughout construction.
- All work shall be installed in conformance with all applicable local codes
and ordinances by experienced workmen and a licensed landscape contractor
Who shall obtain all necessary permits and pay all required fees.
- Any requirement 1n the plans and/or notes shall be considered binding. In
case of discrepancies or items not understood by the contractor, the
owner's representative shall be contacted immediately.
- Site visits by the landscape architect to inspect progress of work and its
conformance With the plans shall be as directed by the owner's representative.
- Execute periodic cleaning of the site throughout the contract period to

- All written dimensions supersede scaled distances. All dimensions are

- Contractor shall coordinate their work with all other applicable trades, as
necessary.
PLANTING NOTES:
Quality Assurance
- Latest issue of American Standard for Nursery Stock published by American
Association of Nurserymen shall be used to grade nursery stock ANSI Z60.1
- Plant nomenclature shall conform to that used in New Sunset Western Garden
Book. Names and varieties not listed in this reference shall be
those most commonly used in the nursery trade.
- Herbicides shall be applied by licensed applicator.
Project Conditions
- Planting operations shall not be conducted under the following conditions:
1. Freezing Weather
2. Excessive Heat
3. High Winds
4. Excessively Wet Conditions
Sequencing 4 Scheduling
- Coordinate with earthwork contractor to establish appropriate subgrade elevations as
required by planting soil depths specified herein and on the drawings.
Soils Testing
- Submit representative sample of stockpiled topsoil (if availableAc, Pacific Testing
Laboratories (206) 451-8436, or other approved soils testing laboratory.
PROD UCT5:
Plants
- Provide plants as indicated on drawings.
- Quantities shown on drawings are for contractor's convenience only.
Contractor is responsible for total number of plants represented
graphically or by calculation.
- Condition: All plants shall conform to the following minimum requirements:
1. Nursery grown, unless otherwise specified.
2. Supplied in appropriate container, balled or burlapped, or bare root as
specified on drawings.
3. In vigorous growing condition with full foliage and fully, symmetrically
branched typically representative of the species.
4. Plants shall meet governing regulations concerning pests, weeds and
disease 4 shall be free from all pests, diseases 4 weeds.
5. Fully and completely rooted, but not rootbound.
6. Plant grading shall conform to ANSI Z60.1.
- Street Trees: Uniform in appearance, size and structure.
- Oversized Plants: Plants larger than specified size may be used providing
height, spread, caliper, and root ball dimensions conform to ANSI Z60.1.
- Plants shall be inspected by the owner's representative at time of
delivery. Rejected plants shall be removed from the site immediately.
Soil mix For all planting areas and seeded areas.
- On site stockpiled soil ( if available), amended as necessary per Soils
Testing Laboratory to support vigorous plant growth.
OR
- 3-way topsoil mix to be approved by Owner's Representative.
Topsoil must be Free of viable plants, plant parts, or seeds.
Mulch
- Cedar Grove medium grade compost mix, or approved equal, uniform in color,
free from weed seed, sawdust, and splinters. Mulch shall not contain
resin, tannin, wood fiber or compounds detrimental to plant growth. Source
shall be from freshwater mill.
Hydroseeded areas:
- Seed shall conform to the standards for "certified" grade seed or better,
as outlined by the State of WA Dept. of Agriculture's "rules for seed
Certification" latest edition. Seed shall be furnished in standard containers.
- Upon owner's request, furnish duplicate copies of a statement
signed by the vendor certifying that each lot of seed has been tested by a
recognized seed testing lab within 6 months of delivery to the project site.
- Hydroseeded area mix:
'Grass Master' Lo-Growth Seed Mix or approved equal.
Hydroseed 4 apply soil additives 4 hydroseed slurry as recommended by supplier
Fertilizer and Soil Amendments
- Trees, shrubs and groundcover:
1. Formula 4-2-2 "Transplanter" as manufactured by Pacific Agro Co., with Hercules
Nitroform and W.R Grace's "Magamp" and trace elements. Apply at rate of
Trees 8oz.
Large and Medium Shrubs 4oz.
Low Shrubs and Groundcovers 2oz.
2. Agriform Tablets: Planting tablets, 21-gram size, as manufactured by Agriform
International Chemicals Inc., 20-10-5 analysis.

Herbicides
- Pre -Emergent: Surflan or approved equal.
- Other herbicides shall be approved by owner's representative prior to

PROCEDURES:
Examination
- Examine site and verify that lines, levels, grades are acceptable and
condition of existing soil is ready to receive work.
- Start of work shall indicate contractor's acceptance of existing
Conditions.
Soil Preparation
- Shrub Bed:
1. Prior to placing planting mix, scarify subgrade in two directions
and thoroughly loosen to a depth of 12 inches.
2. Place 6 inches of planting mix on subgrade and thoroughly till into
scarified soil to a depth of 6 inches.
3. Thoroughly till into top 6 inches of all shrub beds 6-10-10 fertilizer at a rate
of 15 Ibs/1,000 square feet.
- Hydroseeded lawn areas:
I. Place 3 inches of soil mix on subgrade and thoroughly till into
scarified soil to a depth of 6 inches.
2. Thoroughly till into top 6 inches of all seeded areas
soil additives 4 Fertilizer. (Rate 4 type as recommended by seed supplier.)
3. Rake, drag 4 remove rocks 4 debris 3/4"+ from top 1" of seed bed
4. Roll to produce a firm finished grade and lightly rake to loosen top 1/2"
of soil prior to seeding
Fine Grading
- Remove rocks and debris with any dimension larger than I inch that turned
up during preIaration.
- Rake, drag and roll area smooth to establish approved finished grades.
Maintain established flow lines, slopes and grade to achieve positive
drainage allotjing no puddles.
- Finished Grade Requirements:
1. Planting 5e..A Areas: 3 inches below adjacent paving and curbs.
2. Seeded lawn areas: i inch below adjacent paving and curbs.
Hydroseeding
- Water area to a depth of 4" prior to hydroseeding
- Spray slurry onto finish grade at such an angle to aid in embedment of seed
- Contractor shall clean excess slurry from plants, paving and structures
Tree 4 Shrub Planting
- Excavate plant pits to sizes indicated on drawings.
- Fertilize plants at planting With Agriform 21 gram tablets, 20-10-5, 2 per
1 gallon can, 3 per 5 gallon can and 3 per each caliper inch.
- Flood pit prior to placing plant. Notify general contractor of poorly draining pits.
Do not plant until direction concerning drainage is given by general contractor.
- Set plumb Face for best appearance. Set so root crown Will settle to
appropriate level related to surrounding finished grades after settling has
occurred.
- Watering: Construct water basins and thoroughly water plants immediately
after planting.
- Restore Finished grades by hand raking. Leave water basins in place.
- Stake all trees as per details.
Pre -Emergent Herbicide
- Apply in accordance with manufacturer's recommended rates and procedures.
- Apply to soil of all planting areas prior to
placement of mulch_
Mulching
- Apply 2 inchea (compacted depth after watering) of specified mulch to
finished grade in all shrub beds.
- Thoroughly water mulched areas to ensure moisture penetration to the soil.
Inspection, Guarantee 4 Maintenance
- Keep all areas of work clean, neat and orderly at all times. Keep all
paved areas clean during planting and maintenance operations.
- The Landscape Contractor shall contact the owner's representative prior to
beginning construction. Discrepancies or other problems shall be resolved
at this time.
- Maintenance period shall begin upon inspection and approval by owner's
representative, and shall be for 120 Calendar days.
- Maintenance of new planting shall consist of watering, cultivating,
weeding, mulching, resetting plants to proper grades or upright position,
restoration of the planting saucer, and furnishing and applying such sprays
and invlgorants as are necessary to keep the plantings free of insects and
disease and in thriving condition.
- All plant material shall be 1n thriving condition one year from date of final
acceptance.
- Replace all plant material which has lost 309. or more of their normal foliage.
