HomeMy WebLinkAboutVAC - 12th Avenue N & Sunset Blvd East Renton Planning Commission MINUTES May 22, 1957 Members Present:- Ch., Jim Denzer, Chas, McGarrigle, Wes.,. Busch, Alden See, John Austin, Ed, Swanson, Jerry Cordell, Lewis Peretti, & Pete Myers. • Planning Director Don Humble was also present, • 1. The minutes: of the meeting of May 8, 1957 were read and approved, • 2. The hearing was opened on the preliminary Plat of Dobson-Cugini. There were 15 people in the audience questioning the Plat„ These persons were particularly interested in the type of zoning which now existed on this property, It was pointed out to them that the zoning was done when the original zoning map was adopted and that zoning was not in question in the hearing on this Plat. It was further explained that this Plat was a residential Plat. After further discussion and questions, a motion was made by Lewis Peretti, seconded by Wes, Busch; That the chairman place the Plat in the hands of a committee for study and to report back at our next meeting, Motion Carried, Chairman Denzer appointed: LEWIS PERETTI, Chairman, CHAS, Mc GARRIGLE, ALDEN SEE and ED, SWANSON to act as this committee, • 3. The hearing was opened on the variance request of Mr. Niemzyk for a 5-unit Apt. Bldg, There were no protests, A motion was made by Alden See, seconded by Lewis Peretti; that we recommend the granting of a special permit, Motion Carried 4. The hearing was opened on theMagruder rezoning petition for the building of a Trailer Park, Mrs, Clymer made an objection from the audience stating that she did not feel this property should be opened to this type of use as it would by detrimental to the surrounding property owners, Mr, Stan Zaputil,also objected from the audience;, stating that a trailer court in this area would be detrimental to the area, After further discussion, the members of the planning commission pointed out that we were faced with the problems of trailers and had to put them somewhere as there was a definite growth ,in the number of trailers coming to this • area, It was further pointed out that this land in question was abutted by a business area and did not border directly on residential, A motion was made by Ed. Swanson, seconded by Lewis Peretti; that we recommend the approval of the rezoning as requested, and further recommend that no building permit be granted until after the adoption of the new ordiniance covering trailer parks, and until the final • formation of the L,I.D, for sewers in the area Motion carried, • 5, The hearing on the request of Dr, Evoy fora variance: at tth Place was opened. There were no protests, A motion was made by E;, Swanson, seconded by Wes. Busch; that we recomment to the City Council that they grant a Variance to Dr, Evoy as per his request, provided he has secured the 102 easement requirements, Motion Carried, 6, A letter was read from the Public Housing Authority acknowledging receipt of our letter on behalf of the Highlands Community Church for securing land in the Highlands, Mr, Humble informed us that they have now granted permission for the Church to enter into a negotiated sale with the housing authority. Renton Planning Commission Minutes - 2- May 22, 1957 7. Chas.. McGarrigle reported for the committee studying the Trailer Park ordinance proposal and the request of Albert Balch for rezoning property to T and R-3. They reported that they recommended the calling of a hearing on the petition of Albert Balch for both the T, and R-3 rezoning. They further recommended our study and consideration of the proposed Trailer Park Ordiniance which was presented. The committee suggested that Mr. Humble contact Mr. Albert Balch and inform him that a complete plat lay-out of his proposed trailer park must be presented at the hearing. A motion was made by Alden See, seconded by Jeryy Cordell; that a hearing ' , be called for the rezoning petition of Mr. Albert Balch for the meeting of June 12, 1957 Motion Carried, 8. A letter was read from Stan Hicock asking for a special permit to erect a car-port at the location of his Sport Shop, The car-port to be used for display purposes and would dismantled when not in use. The location would be at 218 Main St. After discussion, a motion was made by Lewis Peretti, seconded by Alden See; that we send it back to the building dept. Motion Carried 9. A letter was read from John E.D. Oliver, 9332 N.E. 12th, Bellevue; asking the vacation of 12th Ave North lying between East line of Renton Highlands Addition and the west line of Sunset Blvd, East, It was moved by Lewis Peretti, seconded by Alden See; that the matter be put in the hands of a committee for study and a report back at the next meeting. Motion Carried, Cho Denzer appointed:- Lewis Peretti, Chairman, Alden See & Jerry Cordell to act as this committee, 10:. A petition was presented for rezoning from SR-1 to B-1 described property in Block 39 Renton Highlands, The petition was signed by Mike Lotto, Wm. OTneil, and Geo. Dobson, A motion was made by Alden See, seconded by Jerry Cordell; that a hearing be called for the meeting of June 12. Motion Carried 11, Chairman Denzer reported on the necessity of stepping up Renton's program of annexation and had a letter read from the Corps of Engineers regarding the proposed development of the Duwamish waterway, The committee studying the annexation expansion, headed by Alden See, stated they would work on the problem. The letter announced that a hearing would be held in the Seattle Chamber of Commerce Dinning Room on June 28, at 10:00 a,m, on the Duwamish expansion program and urged attendance of all interested parties„' 11.
