There are already issues here for emergency vehicle access and for the dozens of children that live in this neighborhood. NE 28th street is a direct conduit for children walking to the elementary school down the hill. There is a brief snapshot of some of these issues on the Renton Responds website (see issues 15216, 11044533 & 10462913). We would like to see this plan address/remediate these safety issues by including wide sidewalks, a jog in the road where the mature trees are to ensure a safe width, speedbumps, no parking signage where appropriate, and low speed signage. It is unclear to us if the utilities will be underground, but for the neighborhood aesthetic and for utility reliability that would be ideal. (Currently utilities are very unsightly, especially where a tree is leaning heavily on some of the utility wires) and they are subject to outages during storms due to the vast number of large trees in the area. It is also unclear if the current house will be updated as part of this plan, if the house is to remain, its safety should be reviewed, and it be brought up to current safety standards to benefit its inhabitants and for the neighborhood aesthetics. We would like to see the new sidewalk continued the rest of the way along Aberdeen and connect with the sidewalk on NE 27th for safer access to parks and schools. It doesn't make sense to have the sidewalk end and not connect one more house over, it will encourage people to skip the sidewalk entirely and walk in the street like in other areas with intermittent sidewalks. The 4-way stop sign currently at this properties' corner does not have a no-parking setback. We would like to see that remediated as part of these improvements so that the 4-way stop is visible to traffic and not blocked by parked vehicles. Thanks for reviewing our comments! We look forward to seeing this property developed so that it benefits both its occupants and the surrounding neighborhood!
