As Walker’s transportation engineering expert, Rich Klatt is responsible for managing the
transportation engineering consulting studies for the firm. Rich is a Senior Transportation
Engineer and specializes in conducting transportation engineering studies. He has conducted
and managed over 100 parking and traffic master plan studies for Walker since joining the
firm 30 years ago. Major transportation studies include: University of Notre Dame University
of Missouri-Kansas City, Old Dominion University, University of Georgia-Athens, University
of Colorado, University of New Mexico, Louisiana State University, University of Alaska-
Anchorage and Lilly Corporate Center. Rich has co-authored and published an article on
parking priorities for universities, and presented papers at the annual meeting of the Institute
of Transportation Engineers. He has held numerous positions with ITE including President of
the Missouri Valley Section and Chairman, Department 4, Transportation Operations of the
Technical Council and received an award for outstanding Technical Council activities.
Prior to joining Walker, Rich had been with the consulting engineering firm of Espey, Huston
and Associates, where he conducted transportation engineering studies and served as a
Project Manager for the design of a major arterial roadway. He also had 14 years of experience
as the City Traffic Engineer for the cities of Ames, Iowa and Omaha, Nebraska, where he was
responsible for administering their traffic engineering programs. Rich began his professional
career as an Urban Highway Design Engineer. From 1965-1967, he was a Design Engineer for
the city of Detroit and from 1967-1970 he was a Design Engineer for the city of Ames, Iowa.
