“The Unspoken Truths” forum and museum comes to Renton on February 13
Discussion and exhibits examines the African‐American experience and contributions to society
RENTON, WA ‐ To celebrate Black History Month, the City of Renton and the Renton African‐
American Pastoral Group (RAAP) are sponsoring “The Unspoken Truths,” Delbert Richardson’s
American Traveling Museum and a forum on Monday, February 13, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Living
Hope Christian Fellowship, 16015 116th Ave SE, Renton, WA 98058, (425) 226‐4130.
The museum will be open for viewing from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m., one‐half hour before and after the
forum.
Mr. Richardson has passionately collected a wide assortment of artifacts that symbolize the African
experience in the Americas and Europe before and during American Chattel Slavery. The impact of
the Jim Crow Era is also explored.
Some of the artifacts are relics of joyful family moments and others showcase the rich history of the
many contributions African‐Americans have had on scientific, cultural, and technological innovations
in the United States and the world, including the ironing board, cell phone technology, golf tees, and
pencil sharpeners. Others artifacts, however, are crude reminders of a painful past: a runaway slave
collar from the 1800’s, branding irons, shackles, and a shotgun.

About the Renton African‐American Pastoral Group
RAAP is a partnership between the City of Renton and the Renton African‐American Pastoral Group designed
to facilitate a frank and open dialogue about how the city can encourage and improve communication,
involvement, understanding, trust and respect in the Renton community in general, and more specifically
between the Renton Police Department and the African‐American community in Renton.
