HomeMy WebLinkAbout05/03/2016 - Minutes RENTON MUNICIPAL ARTS COMMISSION MINUTES May 3, 2016 Renton City Hall, 7th Floor –Conference Center Members Present: Mary Clymer, Adrienne La Faye, Ben Andrews, Jerri Everett, Samantha Goetz-Granquist, Neil Sheesley, Paul Hebron, Bill Huls, Kimberly Eshelman, and Evelyn Reingold Excused Absence: Marsha Rollinger and Mitch Shepherd Staff Present: Elizabeth Higgins, RMAC Staff Liaison Call to Order: Meeting was called to order by RMAC Vice -Chair, Mary Clymer at 6:05 pm. Introduction of Guests: Sarah Samson –Renton History Museum Collection Manager and Amy Beale – Exhibit Development Intern (UW) Sarah and Amy gave an overview of their ideas for the second collaboration of the Renton History Museum and an UW Intern with the RMAC. The exhibit will be displayed from 11/08/2016 thru 3/18/2017. It will showcase the City of Renton’s visual art collection and focus on a general theme of, “Time: How Time Has Changed For Us”. The exhibit will open with a public opening celebration. Approval of Minutes: Minutes of the April 5, 2016 RMAC meeting were read and accepted. MSC (Neil/Mary) New Business: 2016 4Culture Grants – The RMAC has $11,000 from 4Culture. We need to determine if our allocations will be the same as last year with $9,000 for Renton Arts Community Grants and $2,000 for RMAC Raising Awareness Art Projects. A Sub-committee (Kim/Jerri/Adrienne) will review the guidelines for grants awards to ensure they are consistent with our Master Plan and make recommendations as needed. Elizabeth will arrange the sub-committee meeting. Old Business: Galvanizing Art Projects (GAP) - Stenciled Parking Lot – Mary/Ben/Neil/Samantha will spray some geometric art stencils in the parking lot located across from the Berliner Pub and behind Ben’s Loans on May 8th at 10:00 a. m., everyone is welcome to join them. - Storefront Art - Samantha has information for this project and will present it to the RMAC at our next meeting. - Brick Yard Project – Is on hold pending a site visit to be arranged by Neil. (TBD) - Proposal for Music Concerts Around Renton – Neil proposed coordinating concerts at least once or twice per year, quarterly at best, to showcase Renton’s musicians. He has identified several possible venues and a proposed base cost of approximately $1, 000 per event. Bill and Neil will meet to discuss use of the Renton Civic Theater to host an event there. Elizabeth/Ben also offered their support for this project. 2016 Budget: Our year to date General Fund Budget was reviewed for expenditures and current committed funds to determine availability of funds to support/sponsor additional projects before the end of the year. All projects/ideas are to be submitted to Elizabeth before our next meeting for consideration. (Paul/Kim) MSC Correspondence and announcements: The correspondence and event folders were circulated for individual review. Upcoming Art and Culture Meetings and Events May 26, 2016 - 10:30 – 12:30 – RMAC to host Local Arts Agencies (LAA) meeting , Highlands Public Library The meeting was adjourned at 7:25 pm.
