RENTON MUNICIPAL ARTS COMMISSION
MINUTES
June 7, 2016 Renton City Hall, 7th Floor –Conference Center
Members Present:
Marsha Rollinger, Mary Clymer, Adrienne La Faye, Ben Andrews, Jerri Everett, Samantha Goetz-
Granquist, Neil Sheesley, Paul Hebron, Mitch Shepherd , Aaron Blalack , and Evelyn Reingold
Excused Absence: Bill Huls and Kimberly Eshelman

Call to Order: Meeting was called to order by RMAC - Chair, Marsha Rollinger at 6:12 pm.
Approval of Minutes: Minutes of the May 3, 2016 RMAC meeting were read and accepted.

Old Business:
Galvanizing Art Projects (GAP)
- Geometric Tape Art Display – Marsha and Mary completed an art display using colored
tape. The unique design is located in the Western Wear building window. Several people
commented on how nice it looked as they were completing the project.
- Outdoor Art Gallery – Adrienne proposed an art exhibit that would have large framed art in
the heart of downtown Renton. It would be located on the east wall of the former Roxy
Theatre. The art, installation and lighting would need a budget of approximately $5000.
Elizabeth provided her with the contact information for the building owner and mentioned the
project to John Collum, who thinks it is a good idea, but said the Community Services
apparently has plans for that wall (outdoor movie theatre?), so they will have to be consulted.
The Facilities Division has authority over the use of the former Big 5 property. The two ideas
are not necessarily mutually exclusive. Meetings must be held! Adrienne and Elizabeth will
follow-up as necessary.
New Business:
2016 4Culture Grants – Our Grant Review Sub-committee (Kim/Jerri/Adrienne) reviewed the
guidelines for grants awards for consistency with our Master Plan. They also reviewed the
Small Grant Applications ($500 awards) and made recommendations for seven (7) awards. The
RMAC proposed that $4500 be taken from the balance ($11,364.95) of our General Fund
Budget. The amount of $3500 will be available for these awards. MSC

2016 Budget: Our year to date General Fund Budget was reviewed for expenditures and
current committed funds to determine availability of funds to support/sponsor additional
projects before the end of the year. RMAC members discussed a long list of proposed projects.
The result of the discussion was the need to request more money from the City of Renton to
implement our robust Master Plan for Art in Renton. Just our cursory list of potential projects
amounted to the need to increase our request to $5.00 per capita.
Therefore, the RMAC is proposing a $5.00 per capita be presented for budget negotiations and
budget meetings for the 2017/2018 City of Renton Budget. MSC (Mitch/Paul/Adrienne)
A meeting to prioritize our budget requests and ensure that they are consistent with the
Master Plan will be held next week. Elizabeth with schedule the meeting and all RMAC
members are requested to attend.
Correspondence and announcements: The correspondence and event folders were circulated
for individual review.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:26 pm.
