Strong Tiger Mountain Homes / Mark Becker Blacktop / Joe Cloudy, 60’s THE FOLLOWING WAS NOTED: AESI was onsite mid-day to observe the completed excavation for the Lot 5 ADU building foundation. Upon arrival, we met with Mark Seek of Tiger Mountain Homes. Lot 5 ADU Building Foundation Subgrade, Permit #B21005534: Prior to our arrival, the contractor excavated approximately 30 feet by 30 feet for the Lot 5 ADU building foundation (Fig 1). Due to the presence of old fill soil and an underlying layer of organic-rich soil, the contractor completed the excavation approximately 3 feet below the proposed foundation elevation to expose native, medium dense to dense, tan, silty sand, based on our observations with a ½ inch diameter, steel soil probe. The center portion of the excavation was deepened 1 to 2 more feet to create a sump area to pump ground water daylighting from the lower portion of the excavation. Some surface disturbed soil (mud) 2 to 4 inches deep was observed around the margin of the sump area. Mark said that they would scrape out any residual mud prior to placing 3 to 5 feet of rock and recycled concrete next week to re-establish the subgrade elevation for the foundation. The existing undisturbed soils will be suitable for 1,500 psf soil bearing. Mark informed us that he planned to use approximately 1 to 2 feet of 2-to-4-inch size quarry spalls in the excavation followed by a capping layer of 1.25-inch minus, crushed, concrete recycle. The spalls and concrete recycle will be compacted during placement to create a firm and unyielding mass of rock. We discussed with Mark that AESI should return to observe the compacted concrete recycle and verify 1,500 psf soil bearing, per plan.
