Renton Highlands Sewer and Manhole Rehabilitation Phase I
The City of Renton is rehabilitating approximately 750 feet of concrete sewer mains and in the 1000 block of Jefferson Ave NE.
This sanitary sewer main was installed in 1942 to provide service for the then-new housing that was constructed to support the increasing labor force as a result of WWII. This sewer
main is made of concrete that has reached the end of its useful life. This sewer shows signs of hydrogen sulfide corrosion as well as many cracks and holes.
The City’s contract specifies utilizing “Cured-in-Place Pipe” (CIPP) as the method to rehabilitate this old sewer main. This process allows a contractor to install a new plastic pipe
within the existing concrete pipe without having to do any excavation. Using the CIPP process, the contractor will be able to rehabilitate this sewer in approximately eight hours with
minimal disruption to the neighborhood. Using a traditional dig-and-replace construction technique, the project would take approximately two to three weeks and would create significant
disruptions to the neighborhood including noise, vibration, and access issues.
The work is proposed to take place on 2 non-consecutive nights between June 16 and July 15.
