Good afternoon Planning Commissioners, Angie, and Chip
I hope you all are doing well! I wanted to check in and see if you may be able to provide an update
on the retail pet sales docket item. I see that it is not on the agenda for next week. I know your
department is tasked with many issues but wanted to check in since the public hearing was back on
8/18/21. Are there additional questions or concerns about passing an ordinance or the language
that should be introduced?
To date, Puppyland's Renton location alone has imported over 1,000 puppies. That is 1,000 puppies
that will grow up to potentially be sick as that is common with puppy mill puppies, have behavioral
issues that families cannot handle and likely be surrendered to our already full King County shelters
and rescues. Our area shelters and rescues have already received some of their puppies. As you
know, this is just part of the issue. There is also concern with the predatory financing that
Puppyland offers and the fact that Renton is currently funding the puppy mill industry by allowing
this store to continue operating as is.
I hope to see Renton be the next city to say 'no' to puppy mills. I am happy to answer any questions
or provide additional information regarding this industry. Thank you for taking all of our comments
and your hard work.
