Hello, my name is Daniel Gray. I am a business owner and resident in Washington state. I have various concerns
regarding these proposals. I have an animal science degree and i am the former president of Nevada Animal Owners
Alliance. I have helped draft several care standards and worked with many regulatory forces across the country at all
levels of government. As we all strive to better educate and provide proper care for our pets, I believe many of these
proposals open doors for possible unintended consequences.
First and foremost I have to say I have visited some of these local establishments and have been very impressed with
their procedures and the cleanliness of their facilities.
I have many concerns with these proposals.
Breeders have faced severe attacks from Animal Rights organizations where their families are threatened, harassed and
even some cases assaulted along with their property destroyed.
Additional requirements states;
3.) The full name and USDA license number from which the Animal was obtained shall be posted on the cage or the
enclosure of the animal forsale.
This information of where these animals are obtained are already available to regulatory forces and the customers who
purchase the animals. But publicly posting this information opens doors for people with malicious intentions to harass
and possibly harm these breeders.
4.) a retail pet store must, prior to obtaining a dog obtain all inspection reports for the breeder created by the USDA
within the three previous years….
5.) for stores selling dogs, All dogs must be obtained directly from a breeder located in Washington state who maintains
compliance.
The issues with 4&5 is there is very few USDA licensed breeders located in Washington state and could severely effect
the supply of puppies to these stores. Even to the point of the closure of these stores.
Please take my comments into consideration and I would be more than happy to provide any insight or
recommendations if the city is open to producing a workshop to discuss possible changes with stakeholders in the area.
Thank you for your consideration,
Daniel Gray
