Subject:Humane Pet Store Ordinance
Good evening,
My name is Jessie Friedmann and I'm a Renton resident (and a frequent flyer on this topic!), I am unable to attend the
commission meeting tomorrow night, but wanted to express my strong support one more time for a humane pet store
ordinance to close Puppyland and prevent other stores of its kind from opening in its place. Danielle, would you mind
sharing with the Commissioners?
I support the ordinance first and foremost as a pet owner. I am deeply saddened every time I drive by Puppyland and
see the conditions in which the dogs live. Dogs need exercise, stimulation, and love. At Puppyland, they are in tanks like
fish. This says nothing of the conditions that they experienced either in transport, or the conditions that their parents
may still live in at puppy mills. I have two shelter dogs ‐ both with both behavioral and health problems due to their
previous lives. Fortunately, the Humane Society was able to provide training and support on how to take care of our
dogs. We are all happy and healthy because of it. At Puppyland, buyers are often hidden from the truth and thus
unequipped to handle it ‐ to the detriment both of their families and the dogs themselves.
Lastly, I support this ordinance as a young adult hoping to start my life in Renton. The price and loan practices of
Puppyland are exploitative and dangerous ‐ putting consumers at risk of financial instability. I hope that Renton can elect
to close down all businesses with this kind of practice, but especially those that are also dangerous to our beloved pets
and our families.
Thank you for your tireless consideration of this matter! I am deeply appreciative.
Thanks,
Jessie
