Strong Tiger Mountain Homes / Mark Tiger Mountain Sunny, 58 deg THE FOLLOWING WAS NOTED: Lot 6 ADU Building Foundation Excavation, Permit #B21005537: AESI was onsite at 2:30pm today to observe the foundation excavation for the Lot 6 ADU building (see plan below and photos on page 2). Upon arrival, we met with Mark Seek of Tiger Mountain Homes. Prior to our arrival, the contractor excavated approximately 4 to 5 feet below existing grade for the 20-foot by 26-foot ADU building. Part of the Lot 6 ADU building area was located in a temporary storm water pond area that was previously (several months ago) over-excavated and replaced with structural fill observed and tested by AESI. The building excavation was deepened to remove old fill soil, black, organic-rich material and wet, loose native soil. Some of the previously placed and compacted structural fill placed for the building last Fall/Winter was inadvertently removed during the over-excavation process. The excavation exposed medium dense to dense (based on observations with a ½ inch diameter, steel soil probe) native, brown and gray, silty sand. The remaining structural fill consisted of granular, sand and gravel that was also in a medium dense to dense condition. The exposed soils were in a suitably firm condition to place structural fill (concrete recycled materials) to re-establish foundation subgrade. Mark showed us that they had marked the northern and western building envelope lines with green paint on the adjacent silt fences. Based on a visual projection for the western footing line, it appeared that the central, western portion of the excavation was not wide enough to accommodate structural fill placement to suitably extend outside the footing line. Mark said that they would trim that portion of the excavation a few feet wider. As for the other ADU excavations, they planned to use structural fill consisting of 2 to 4-inch size, recycled concrete (spalls) capped by 1 to 2 feet of 1 ¼” minus recycled concrete to re-establish their foundation subgrade. The contractor will tamp the spalls with the excavator bucket every 2 feet thick to create a tight mass of unyielding spalls followed by compacting the top recycled material with a jumping jack in maximum 1-foot-thick lifts. We will return for a final observation of the compacted material. Lot 6 ADU Fdn Plan.
