HomeMy WebLinkAbout09/23/2021 - Minutes RHS Minutes_Annual Meeting_092321 Page 1 of 2 RENTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY BOARD OF TRUSTEES Annual Meeting September 23, 2021 , 2005 , 2005 , 2002 Attending: Jessica Kelly, Laura Clawson, Daryl Delaurenti, Maryann DiPasquale, Amy Elizabeth Gorton, Rhea Kimble, Lynne King, Colleen Lenahansen, Elizabeth P. Stewart, and Staci VanderPol. Absent: Mike Lennox. Guests: Members of the Renton Historical Society Call to Order President Colleen Lenahansen called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. The meeting was held remotely using Zoom, given pandemic restrictions. Colleen welcomed guests. Museum Update Information Museum Director Liz Stewart welcomed members and dignitaries. She reviewed the Museum’s accomplishments for 2020 and most of 2021, which included: grant-funded women’s suffrage centennial exhibit, What Difference Do Renton Women Make? (2020-2021) including an online exhibit component; hosting a rescheduled SITES exhibit Hometown Teams with accompanying in-house exhibit Renton’s Sporting Triumphs (2021); University of Idaho wildfire photography exhibit Facing the Inferno (2021); and Karisa Keasey’s art exhibit, When You Can’t Go Home (2021). The museum was closed for most of 2020 (March – October, then December through March 2021) because of pandemic restrictions. Business meeting Action Item Board President Colleen Lenahansen introduced new trustees Daryl Delaurenti and Maryann DiPasquale (new as of January 2021). She also submitted a slate of officer candidates to the full membership for affirmation, as follows: • Jessica Kelly as President and Colleen Lenahansen as Vice President. • Staci VanderPol to continue as Secretary. • Daryl Delaurenti as Treasurer. MOTION: Laura Clawson moved to approve the slate of new trustees and officers; Lynne King seconded. By voice vote, members voted aye, none were opposed. Artist Talk Information Artist Karisa Keasey, whose work was featured in the museum’s latest exhibit, When You Can’t Go Home, gave a moving talk on her work with refugees. Her interviews and sensitive portraits resulted in a book by the same title; 50% of the book’s profits go to World Relief, which supports refugees during their resettlement.
