(AESI) was on site part-time at the request of Jerry Jr. with Continental Dirt Contractors (CDC). While on-site we attended a meeting between CDC, Cornerstone, and Ed Thomson as well as observed CDC continuing soil stripping activities. Site Clearing and Stripping: At noon today, we attended a site meeting between CDC, Cornerstone, and Ed Thomson to discuss the soft soils observed yesterday (see FR004). After the meeting, AESI observed as CDC excavated four test pits on the southern end of the site. The contractor had removed the 6-10-inch thick layer of topsoil in this area prior to AESI arrival. The area consisted of a moist, dark brown to orange, silty fine sand with trace gravel and occasional to abundant rootlets and other organic material (apparent weathered native till and reworked till) which yielded readily underfoot and rutted significantly under equipment tracks. The test pits extended to depths of approximately 1.5-feet on average. The pits encountered approximately 1.5-feet of weathered native till material before encountering a moist to very moist, gray, sand with trace to some silt and gravel. Bottom of test pits were firm and unyielding underfoot and probed less than 1-inch using a ½-inch diameter steel T-probe. The contractor requested sieve tests be run on the native soils. AESI collected samples of both the weathered and unweathered till. See Figure 1 for location and Photo 1 for photo. AESI will return in the future for more geotechnical observation. Figure 1.
