THE FOLLOWING WAS NOTED:
Associated Earth Sciences Inc. (AESI) was on site around 10:30am to monitor building subgrade over excavation comprised of soft
native till soils.
Building Foundation Subgrade Over Excavation
Prior to our arrival, earthwork crews excavated approximately 2-2.5 feet from existing grade to reach final building foundation grade.
AESI observe majority of the southwest side of the area to be soft and yielding under foot probing approximately 1-2 feet using a ½”
diameter steel t-probe (Photos 1 and 2). We informed Jerry with Continental Dirt Contractors (CDC) of our observations in which
approximately 1-1.5 feet of soft subgrade was removed over the southwest area using a mid-size excavator to reach firm and unyielding
subgrade. The contractor then placed 2.5” minus crushed rock to bring the area back up to grade spreading it over the southwest area
with a bulldozer (Photos 3 and 4). Approximate location of over excavation is outlined on Figure 1 below. Jerry informed us that the
plan for tomorrow is to continue removing soft subgrade more towards the west end of the site and to prepare the site for possible
rain. AESI left the site in the afternoon and will return upon request.
