(AESI) was on site, as requested, to observe building subgrade preparation. Upon arrival, we met with representatives from Cornerstone and Continental Dirt Contractors (CDC). Building Foundation Subgrade Preparation: Upon arrival, CDC was continuing preparation of the future building pad subgrade south/southwest of Wetland B. In the area work was performed today, soil and current ground surface elevation consisted of a very moist to wet, dark brown, silty fine sand with occasional organics. Using a ½ diameter steel soils T-probe, this material probed between 1 and 2 feet. While onsite, AESI observed as the contractor removed the soft soils in an area approximately 33-feet wide by 55-feet long by approximately 2.5-feet deep. The contractor excavated in the area until hard native till was exposed. AESI probed the moist, gray, sand with silt native till to depths of less than 2 inches and noted the material appeared firm and unyielding underfoot. The contractor then backfilled the area using 2.5-inch minus crushed rock material in 1-foot thick lifts. Each lift was compacted using a vibratory roller. Wile onsite today, AESI observed the contractor remove approximately 170 cubic yards of soft soils (bank yardage). See Figure 1 below for location. AESI will return tomorrow to continue observation of building pad subgrade preparation. Figure 1: Approximate location of subgrade over excavation outlined in blue.
