(AESI) was onsite 12pm to observe the excavation for the house on Lot 6. Mark informed us that over-excavation was required along the eastern portion of the building area where organic soil was observed beyond the structural fill placed last year in the old temporary pond area. Mark was not onsite. We observed the building area to be partially excavated with the deepest portion 8 to 9 feet below existing grade along the eastern portion of the building area. No offset stakes or paint lines were present to identify the building corners or the building envelope. Mark informed us that the foundation for the Lot 6 house will be about 6 inches west of the existing ADU building. The deepest portion of the excavation exposed weathered to unweathered medium dense to dense, suitably firm, native soil. The central portion of the excavation exposed previously placed, gray, sandy, structural fill. The southern portion of the excavation was 6 feet deep and ended 12 feet from the western margin of the proposed house. Most of the excavation was in a rougly graded condition. We discussed with Mark afterwards that the deeper, eastern portion was suitable for placement of backfill with quarry spalls or concrete recycle as similarily used on other Lot/ADU building excavations. We said that there appeared to still be some organics near the northeastern portion of the excavation but, weren’t sure if it was within the building envelope. We recommended that he establish the building envelope by staking or paint marks prior to our next site visit. The areas of disturbed structural fill will need to be recompacted. Mark said he was not planning to be onsite for a couple weeks but would get the building area outlined. We will return upon request.
