(AESI) was onsite at 7:30 Am and 1:30 PM to observe lot 6 building foundation subgrade and backfill. Lot 6 Foundation Subgrade We were on site this date in the AM to observe the remainder of the subgrade overexcavation for Lot 6 building foundation south end. The subgrade consisted of brown silty sand with some heavy moisture in ceratin parts. The contractor excavated approximately 8-9 feet from final grade to reach foundation subgrade using a large excavator. We assessed the subgrade using a ½” diamater steel t-probe and confirmed the subgrade to be firm and unyieldng probing no more than 2-3 inches suitable to support recycled concrete structural fill (Photo 1). We understand that they will be placing recycled concrete in the afternoon to bring the excavation back up to foundation grade. Lot 6 Backfill We returned in the PM to observe the placement of the recycled concrete backfill. The fill was being placed in lifts and bucket tamped in place. The fill was in a firm and unyielding conditon and suitable for the placement of the foundation. Photo 1: Southeast corner of lot 6 building excavation looking towards the southwest.
