Re: City of Renton Permit #B20003319 – Second Submittal
Dear Alan:
We have reviewed your April 2, 2021 plan check comments for this project and have the
following responses. Our numbering corresponds to the numbering in your plan check.
Structural Comments
3. Structural submittals. Reports, certificates and other documents related to structural
special inspections and tests should be submitted by the contractor to the City of
Renton. The certificates of compliance are required to state that the work was
performed in accordance with the approved construction documents. See IBC
Sections 107.1, 107.3.4, and 107.3.4.1. See also the structural comments below.
The following is a summary:
a. Submittal of material certificates from the manufacturers of masonry units, mortar
materials and grout materials. Please note, by TMS 602-13 Figure SC-4,
achieving 4,000 psi Prism Test results may be extremely difficult; the engineer
may want to reconsider the f’m equal 4,000 psi design. See also IBC Section
1704.5 and TMS 602-13 Section 1.5.
The drawings should be revised to indicate the above requirements and
the revised drawings should be submitted for review. See IBC Sections
107.2.1.
Response:
a. Requested notes added. See updated submittal schedule on sheet S1.2 and
Masonry note #7 on sheet S1.3.
8. Sheet S2.2 shows a Plan View of Level 1 PT and Reinforcing. There is text along
Grid A that is obscured by the canopy framing. Below is an image from Sheet S2.2
with our redlined comment. Please revise the Sheet to have the text legible and
submit the revised drawings for review. See IBC Sections 107.2.1 and 1603.1.

been a drafting error and that the 4-inch dimension should be a 6-inch
dimension to match the submitted calculations. Please revise the drawings to
clarify the scope of work and design intent. The revised drawings should be
resubmitted for review. See IBC Sections 107.2.1, 1603.1, and 1901.2.
Response: PT profile has been updated see revised sheet S2.2.
9. Sheet S5.5 has a note under the submittals section which refers to shop drawings
being submitted to the City of Bellingham. Below is an image from Sheet S5.5 with
our redlined comment. Please revise the note to refer to the City of Renton and
submit the revised drawings for review. See IBC Section 107.2.1.
Response: This was previously updated in Phase 1 response, see sheet S5.5.
10. Detail 8 on Sheet S5.5 has a drafting error with respect to showing the extents of the
#5 bars at 24 inches on center. Below is an image from Detail 8/S5.5 with our
redlined comments. Please revise the drawings to clarify the extents and submit the
revised drawings for review. See IBC Section 107.2.1.
Response: Detail 8/S5.5 and rebar extent appears to be correct.
16. Detail 15/S5.2 should be revised to indicate ½ specified spacing from the lowest
horizontal reinforcement in the slab, drop panel, or shear cap as indicated in ACI -
318-14 Section 10.7.6.2.2. Currently the drawings do not indicate this requirement.
Below is an image of the situation and a redlined note showing the concern. Please
revise the drawings and resubmit for review. See IBC Sections 107.2.1 and 1901.2.
Response: Detail 15/S5.2 has been updated.
