HomeMy WebLinkAbout300-54CITY OF ReI.lO. , POLICY & PROCEDURE Subject: EMPLOYEE RECOGNITiON PROGRAM Index: HRRM Number: 300-54 Effective Date: Supersedes:Page: Staff Contact: Approved y: 9/27/2017 1/1/94 1 of 2 Ellen Bradley-Mak 1.0 PURPOSE: To establish policy and procedural guidelines for the recognition of City of Renton employees. 2.0 ORGANIZATIONS AFFECTED: All departments/divisions 3.0 REFERENCES: N/A 4.0 POLICY: The City of Renton will use an Employee Recognition Program as a means of honoring regular full and part-time employees for outstanding contributions and to acknowledge and express appreciation for years of service to the City. 5.0 DEFINITIONS: 5.1 Service Awards: Awards given to employees who reach years of service at predetermined intervals. 5.2 Retirement Awards: Awards given to retiring employees who have served with the City for at least five (5) years, or at the administrator's discretion. 6.0 PROCEDURES: 6.1 The Employee Recognition Program budget is the responsibility of the Human Resources and Risk Management (HRRM) Department. All requests for funds must be directed to HRRM. 300-54 Employee Recognition Program p. 2 6.2 Service Awards: 6.2.1 One (1) year of service: Employees will receive an inscribed coffee mug upon completion of one year of service with the City. 6.2.2 5/10/15/20/25 years of service: Employees who reach these service levels will be presented with a City pin with years of service inscribed. Employees who have served the City for 25 years will also receive a distinctive pen with City of Renton logo or seal, and inscribed with years of service, in addition to a service pin. 6.2.3 30/35/40 years of service: A special inscribed award wil) be given to employees who have served the City for 30, 35, and 40 years. 6.3 Retirement Awards: 6.3.1 A retiring employee who has worked for the City for at least five years, or at the administrator's discretion, will receive a plaque inscribed with the employee's name, the year the employee began regular employment at the City, and the year of retirement. 6.3.2 The retiring employee will also receive a special certificate, framed and signed by the Mayor and Council President. 6.3.3 The retiring employee's department is encouraged to host a recognition event at the City, to allow co-workers the opportunity to thank and congratulate him or her. The Employee Recognition Program budget will provide to the employee's department up to $150 for the purchase of cards, cake, other refreshments, and decorations for the recognition event. 6.4 Department Level Programs: Each department is authorized and encouraged to establish and maintain a written departmental employee recognition program that is consistent with the policy stated in Section 4.0 herein. A departmental employee recognition program shall take effect upon approval by the Chief Administrative Officer and the Administrative Services Administrator. After a departmental employee recognition program has taken effect, it will be overseen and funded by the department.
