Thank you for the opportunity to review and comment. Based on the
information provided and our understanding of the project and its APE, we
would typically recommend an archaeological review performed for this
project, especially if excavation cuts below fill. This is in an area the Duwamish
Tribe considers culturally significant and has a high probability to have
unknown archaeological deposits. The DAHP WISAARD website predictive
model indicates that an archaeological survey is highly advised with a very high
risk for encountering archaeological resources. If any archaeological work is
performed, we request notification. An IDP should not be used in lieu of
archaeological investigation. However, after reviewing the borehole and test
pit logs from the geotechnical report provided for this project, an IDP would
be acceptable to the Tribe. Cultural and archaeological resources are non-
renewable and are best discovered prior to ground disturbance. In addition,
the Tribe strongly recommends that native plants only be used for
landscaping.
