(AESI) was on-site in the morning for observation of Stormwater Detention Facility 2 progress, electrical trench backfill, and water line backfill, and storm line backfill at the request of Jerry Jr. of CDC. Stormwater Detention Facility 2 While on-site, we observed that the contractor had completed placement of the top geotextile protection liner. The PVC liner was still partially completed. The contractor was beginning to place 0.5’ of clean aggregate across the bottom of Facility 2, as per plan. The contractor informed AESI that the PVC liner would become available Friday and the remaining strip would be installed prior to aggregate placement over the section. See Figure 1 for location of observed area today. Electrical Trench Backfill While onsite, AESI observed shallow electrical trench backfill that had been placed. Approximately 2’ of backfill, consisting of onsite soils, was placed in 1’ lifts and compacted with a hoepac. AESI used a ½ inch diameter steel soils T-probe to assess the backfill conditions. There were several areas where AESI observed loose material that appeared to have been placed without compaction. Generally, the area probed approximately 6” to 18”. In one section, noted in Figure 2, significant rutting and pumping was observed. Jason of Sare informed AESI that the contractors would be scheduled to be onsite again next week. AESI plans to return next week for further observation. See Figure 2 for location of area observed today. Water Line Backfill While onsite, AESI observed 3’ to 4’ of water line backfill. The backfill, consisting of onsite soils, had been placed in 1’ lifts and compacted with a hoepac and single drum vibratory roller. AESI used a density gauge to test the newly backfilled section. Test results met or exceeded 95% compaction (Table 1). In our opinion, based on our observations and test results, we found the observed area of backfill, to be firm and unyielding and suitable for support of planned paving. See Figure 3 for location of area observed today. Storm Line Backfill While onsite, AESI observed an area of 2’ to 4’ of storm line backfill between building areas C and D. The backfill, consisting of onsite soils, was placed in 1’ lifts and compacted with a hoepac. AESI used a density gauge to test the newly backfilled section. Test results met or exceeded 95% compaction (Table 1). In our opinion, based on our observations and test results, we found the observed area of backfill, to be firm and unyielding and suitable for support of planned hardscape and landscaping. See Figure 4 for location of area observed today.
