HomeMy WebLinkAboutPN_Landscape_Narrative_221209_v1 800 GARDEN Landscape Narrative Use and Gathering Within the scope of the proposed project and adjacencies, the landscape concept is to provide accessible circulation to, from and within the project development. The integration of public plaza spaces, informal spaces and leisure spaces along Garden Street and between the building’s open spaces will offer a wide range of flexible activity, catering to varying scales of social gatherings and different times of the day. The project will provide two plaza areas in the North West area and the South West area to be designed as a welcoming landmark to those entering the Urban Center (UC-2) District. Open Spaces South West Plaza - The South West plaza populated with fixed seating, gathering space, and areas to place retail provided furnishing to establish a welcoming space for leisure, rest, and dining. North West Plaza - A smaller in size plaza serving as a point of interest in the project incorporating a plaza seating area and public art element adjacent by the retail market space. Active Paseos – The areas between the buildings will provide active functions serving the residences like passive recreation and Dog Park offering places to sit, connect, meet, and gather. Garden Street Street trees will be incorporated in an 8' planting strip along the curb line and will be incorporated into the expanded urban plaza area in tree grates. 8th Street Special detailing of the building facade will be intertwined with landscaping treatment combining evergreen shrubs and trees 13' wide. Street trees will be incorporated both in a 8' planting strip along the curb line and the 13’ wide planting strip along the building. Hardscape and Plant Materiality Materials such as permeable concrete pavers will complement a more formal plaza treatment offering texture, drainage, and percolation during rain events. Softer textured and smaller scale paving moments are introduced in courtyards and greens in relation to larger scaled entry plazas. The use of ‘plug-in’ spaces such as circular and linear bench seating will allow residents to people watch, observe or connect with their surroundings in both north and south plazas and the spaces in between the buildings. The bioswale and bioretention basins incorporated in the project and the public right of way capture runoff following the pathway’s flow and topography creating an exhibit of functional storm water sustainability through the use of cobble, boulders, water inundation tolerant plant material. Surrounding understory meets the formality of plazas and would blend into the adjacent planting context and character. Design Recommendations Page 2 of 2 1. Plaza Areas a.
