CONTRACT CHANGE ORDER AGREEMENT
CONTRACT: CAG-14-090 SW 7th St/ Naches Ave SW Storm System Improvement C.O.# 1
Project—Phase 1
CONTRACTOR: Road Construction Northwest, Inc.
SUMMARY OF PROPOSED CHANGE:
Bid Item A-17 Unsuitable Foundation Excavation Incl. Haul CY
This change order includes the cost to use quarry spalls for foundation material instead of crushed surface
base course (CSBC), and to increase the estimated quantity needed. Quarry spalls will provide a more stable
foundation than CSBC in the soft silty soils encounterd at the bottom of the excavation.
To provide a stable base the soft silty soil will be overexcavated by 12-inches to 24-inches, construction
geotextile will be placed at the bottom of the trench, and quarry spalls will be placed for the foundation.
Per the attached email and material invoices from Road Construction Northwest the cost difference to use
quarry spalls instead of CSBC is an additional $11.10 per cubic yard.
The change in Bid Item A-17 Unit Price is$32.00+$11.10=$43.10 per cubic yard.
Based on the soil encountered and geotechnical report it is possible that additional areas of the new 60-inch
pipe may encounter soft silty soil and require unsuitable foundation excavation. The amount of unsuitable
foundation excavation could increase from 100 cy to 300 to 400 cy.
The estimated quantity for A-17 will be increased to 400 CY.
The revised Amount for Bid Item A-17 is$43.10 per cy x 400 cy=$17,240.00
The original Amount for Bid Item A-17 was $3,200.00
The cost increase for Bid Item A-17 is$14,040.00
Bid Item A-46 Construcion Geotextile for Separation SY
Construction Geotextile for Separation will be used at the bottom of the Unsuitable Foundation Excavation to
help form a stable base for the quarry spalls, and above the quarry spalls to help prevent the pipe bedding
material from settling into the voids in the quarry spalls. The change in quantity in Bid item A-17 requires a
corresponding change in the quantity of geotextile. Depending on the amount of Unsuitable Foundarion
Excavation the amount of Geotextile needed could range from 1500 to 2000 sy. The Unit Price will remain the
same.
The estimated quantity for A-46 will be changed to 2000 SY.
The revised Amount for Bid Item A-46 is$3.00 per sy x 2000 sy= $6,000.00
The original Amount for Bid Item A-46 was$1,500.00
The cost increase for Bid Item A-46 is$4,500.00

Working Days
In the November 3,2014 letter Road Construction Northwest provided a revised project schedule showing
project completion on January 20,2015. The time extension would add 29 working days to the project. The
primary reasons for the extension were design,submittal,and delivery delays for the concrete vault and
Filterra units by the supplier,Old Castle Precast. Also the rights to supply the Filterra units have been
purchased by Contech Engineering Solutions,which may delay delivery of the Filterra units.
In the letter and in a meeting with the City,Road Construction Northwest stated that they are not requesting
any additional compensation for the delays for the concrete vault or Filterra units. That would include but not
be limited to compensation for time related costs such as Traffic Control, Dewatering,Shoring,Structural
Excavation,Trench Safety System,Control of Water,and other costs related to the time extension.
The time extension and additional 29 working days will be approved at no additional cost to the City.
Cost increase for Bid Items A-17=$14,040.00
Cost increase for Bid Items A-46=$4,500.00
TOTAL CHANGE ORDER COST= $18,540.00
