SUMMARY OF PROPOSED CHANGE: New Item 23. This change authorizes the Contractor to load, haul and dispose of unanticipated contaminated organic material. Based on the soils report, the contract assumed the excavated material to be removed from the pond to be composed of glacial till. During preparation for excavation of the pond, an approximate 18" layer of dark, organic material with a strong odor was uncovered at the bottom of the pond when the pond was dewatered. The material was clearly of a different composition than the native material identified in the soils report. The contractor had the material tested and it was found to have high concentrations of fecal matter which required disposal at a certified disposal site. The cost breakdown for this item is listed below and is full compensation for all work described above: • Labor, equipment and materials for sampling and environmental testing of organic material. • Labor, equipment to dispose of 228 tons of contaminated organic material. • Labor and equipment to haul contaminated organic material. • Equipment to load contaminated material for disposal.
