The north end of the rail as constructed was within the clear zone (< 18 inches) and the rail south of this point does not follow the sidewalk alignment and the posts are not constructed next to the sidewalk. The attached sketch illustrates the required layout for the section to be replaced. The northernmost post shall be constructed at a point 60 inches from the sidewalkicurb match point. The rail handle shall extend north from this post and shall be located a minimum of 18 inches from the face of curb. The hand rail shall be replaced back to the post located approximately 18.42 feet south of this northernmost post, which will require replacement of 4 posts. In addition, the posts and rail shall be constructed such that they are adjacent to the sidewalk, consistent with the alignment of the sidewalk and free of kinks. This section shall be replaced at no additional cost to the City. In addition, during the field layout of the handrail in the NE corner in accordance with Construction Note No. 43 (Drawing No. 16 - dated 7/12/12) and discussions in a coordination meeting held at City offices on November I Sth, it was determined that between the south side of the pedestrian pole location and the newly installed guardrail and terminal section, handrail is not required given current site conditions.
