The following arplanation provides background info on and details the reason for the change. Description: gitilikkakDiSiRadfigRment The Phase 2 tie-backs are in close proximity to the Phase 1 sheet piles at the north and south piles just east of the Main 1 shoofly tracks. The distance between the anchor and the Phase 1 sheets shown on the plans is 2 feet-4.5 inches on the north wall and 2 feet,-6 inches on the south wall. An RFI was received from Atkinson on 5/22/2013 Ming that the drilling equipment required at least 40 inches of lateral space from center of tie-back in order to drill the tiebacks 53A,53B,53C,MA,MB and MC. Hanson provided a re-design of the tie-backs at 6 foot offset from the Phase 1 sheets to accommodate the dolling equipment as requested by the Contactor. This re-design required greater anchor loads of 315 kips for anchors 53B and 54B.The Contractor did not want to pull those high loads with their equipment. The second option was to cut off a 24 foot sec- tion of the Phase 1 sheet piles as the excavation proceeded on the north and south walls that are in conflict with the equipment and offset the tiebacks another 6 inches west This would allow drilling of the conflicted anchors adjacent to the Phase 1 sheets. See RFI Transmittal No.491 sent on 7/3t2013. Cutting a section of sheet pile was the option Atkinson chose to do as they had concerns with pulling the high loads required on the revised anchor design. In order to accommodate the work, the Contrac- tor had to excavate down to the first row of tie-backs and cut the 24 foot section of Phase 1 sheets that were in conflict There was also a BNSF walkway that needed to be removed and reinstalled. The Contactor excavated down to the second row of tie-backs after stressing the first row,and removed another 24 foot section of Phase 1 sheets. The Contractor placed some plywood on top of the second cut to serve as a walkway. After stressing the second row of tie-backs the Contractor excavated down to the third row and the Phase 1 sheets were cart and removed This change compensates Atkinson for$308,235.69. A total of 33 working days will be added to the Contract which includes 26 compensable working days and an additional 7 non-compensable working days. Anew bid item will also be created for Phase 2 Shoring Conflicts. Add the Following New Items to Contract CAG 11-133: New Bid Item SA-158"Phase 2 Shoring Conflict-LS"compensates the Contractor for all, overhead, labor and equipment associated with the installation of the tie-backs.
