What is the future of Renton’s Downtown Civic Core?
The City of Renton asks for community input at a public workshop on March 2
RENTON, WA – On March 2, 2017, the City of Renton is
hosting a public kick-off and visioning workshop for the
Renton Downtown Civic Core Vision and Action Plan.
Community members are invited to voice their visions for
the future of the Downtown Civic Core. Through small
group discussions and interactive activities, the
participants will identify issues they experience in the
area and their ideas for improvements.
The workshop is family friendly and light refreshments will be provided. Spanish interpretation will be available at
the workshop.
Who: Renton community members, downtown business and property owners, and other interested parties
What: Kick-Off + Visioning Workshop
When: March 2, 2017, 5:30 – 8 p.m. Presentation and activities start at 6 p.m.
Where: Renton Pavilion Event Center
The Downtown Civic Core Vision and Action Plan will identify a community-supported vision and actions to build
upon Downtown Renton’s many assets and strategic location in the region. The Plan will offer strategies to create
dynamic spaces for people to gather, safe streets for all modes of transportation, and a bustling business
environment.
The Civic Core includes several blocks surrounding the Transit Center, Pavilion Event Center, and Piazza and
Gateway parks. It lies within and is connected to the Downtown Business District. The project will focus on the
Civic Core’s relationship to the business district, and vice versa, as well as its connections to landmarks like the
Cedar River, Downtown Library, and the local parks system.
The Downtown Civic Core Vision and Action planning process started in late 2016, with technical analysis by the
project team led by the consulting firm of MIG, Inc. A Community Advisory Committee and Technical Advisory
Committee are meeting regularly to guide the planning process throughout. The plan is expected to be complete
by late 2017.
