The ban was passed by voters in 2005 and designed to protect both citizens and their property from damage caused by fireworks. Since its inception, there has been a significant reduction in the number of injuries and property damage. Additionally, the sale, possession, or use of explosive devices, such as M-80s, M-100s, and homemade or modified fireworks, is a felony offense. Violators will face criminal charges and are subject to both civil and criminal penalties and a fine. City of Renton Contact Sonja Mejlaender, Community Relations & Event Coordinator, 425-430-6514 Fabulous 4th of July features activities for all ages and concludes with a fireworks display The city invites residents inside and outside the city to the 15th annual Fabulous 4th of July at Gene Coulon Memorial Park, co-sponsored by The Landing. A day full of activities starts at 9 a.m. and climaxes at 10 p.m. with a spectacular fireworks display sponsored by the Hyatt Regency-Lake Washington. In between there will be a co-ed volleyball tournament, entertainment stage, and KidZone, featuring free inflatables and face painting co- sponsored by Coal Creek Family YMCA and Walmart. Park gates will open at 7 a.m. and parking will be limited. A courtesy unload and load area will be available in the park’s boat launch area from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Parking is available on the top two floors of the parking garage at The Landing, in the lot at North Eighth Street, Park Avenue North, and Garden Avenue North, and along Houser Way North, with access to Lake Washington Boulevard North via the underpass under NE Park Drive. Parking is not permitted along Lake Washington Boulevard North and the street will be closed from 9:30 until approximately 11:15 p.m. The City of Renton’s website has more information concerning the Fabulous 4th of July and the fireworks ban.
