Renton Multicultural Festival – Save the
date: September 30 and October 1
As our region continues to become
more diverse we have a great
opportunity to learn more about our
neighbors, their heritage and culture.
We are planning the first annual
Renton Multicultural Festival on
September 30 and October 1 to
celebrate our diversity. Events will held
at Carco Threatre, Piazza Park and the
Renton Events Center. This fun-filled,
free family event is a great opportunity
to enjoy music, dance, games and
great foods, representing different
cultures from around the world.
Please save the dates and join
us for two days of fun, food and
entertainment.
NATIONAL NIGHT OUT
The annual National Night
Out is designed to show
citizens how they can help rid
their neighborhoods of crime
by becoming more involved.
I invite you to join us at the
Highlands Neighborhood
Center on August 2, from
4:00 to 7:30 p.m. for our cel-
ebration. There will be food,
games and party hoppers for
the kids. It’s all free.

Renton - the center of healthcare
We all know Renton as the home of Boeing and the Seattle Seahawks. But did
you know that Renton is also leading the way when it comes to healthcare
providers? For many years we’ve been a leader in local healthcare through
the outstanding work of UW Medicine/Valley Medical Center. Recently, one
of the nation’s top providers of healthcare — Providence Health & Services,
which is headquartered in Renton — merged with California-based St.
Joseph Health, making it the third-largest nonprofit health system in the
United States. Providence currently has 2,500 employees at its 12-acre
Renton campus near IKEA. They have a strong commitment to charity and
in 2015, Providence nationally contributed $949 million to charity care and
uncompensated services and that amount will rise to $1.4 billion.
Last year, Group Health broke ground for their new operations facility and
corporate campus at the former Longacres site. It will include three office
buildings and a pharmaceutical distribution center and will bring more than
1,300 new jobs to Renton. Group Health is merging with Kaiser-Permanente
and will become one of the largest healthcare providers in the nation.

TECHNOLOGY AIDS POLICE
The Renton Police Department
is the first in the area to
utilize high-tech software to
process investigation scenes.
“Photogrammetry” creates
3D images several times more
detailed than those produced
by hand-held equipment. The
system saves the department
countless man-hours and
allows them to re-open areas
under investigation much
more quickly. North Highlands Community Garden
As a city, we are working hard to help provide affordable and healthy
activities and opportunities for our residents. The North Highlands
Community Garden is one of those projects and earlier today it was my
honor to be part of the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
As with any project of this scope, we owe a great deal to our community
partners. A $10,000 grant from CVS Pharmacy provided the funding, while
community partners and volunteers from Symetra and The Boeing Company,
Eagle Scout Kane Anderson, Sustainable Renton, Seattle Tilth, and students
from Renton and Hazen high schools provided design and construction
expertise.
