Vision House opened a new thrift store
and donation center last week with
a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Vision
House has been part of Renton since
the 1990’s and is a non-profit providing
homelessness prevention and
temporary housing with supportive
services to homeless children and their
families.
The new store is located at 410 Olympia
Avenue NE and is open 10 a.m. to 6
p.m. Tuesday to Saturday. They accept donations on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 10:30 a.m.
to 4:30 p.m.

Clothes Bank and feeding program find temporary home
Throughout our region we are continuing to see
a growing need for basic necessities such as food
and clothing. That’s why it was alarming that two
of our bedrock human services organizations,
the Renton Kiwanis Clothes Bank and Renton
Ecumenical Association of Churches’ (REACH)
feeding program, were facing closure due to loss
of their leases.
To avoid the loss of these two critical services,
the city is providing a temporary solution that
ensures they remain open while permanent
options are explored. Both will be housed in a
building that used to be occupied by the Chamber
of Commerce. The arrangement is a temporary
option as the city develops the airport master plan that will ultimately determine the long-term plans
for the building. We are also working to find meeting space at the airport for the Civil Air Patrol, who
has also been using space at the airport.
The Renton Clothes Bank has been a part of Renton for almost 30 years providing free clothing to
residents of all ages. It was started by volunteers in 1965 and in 2000 the Renton Kiwanis Club assumed
sponsorship.
The REACH Feeding Program has been operating since 2015. They serve an evening meal on Friday,
Saturday and Sunday.
It was vital to keep the doors of the clothes bank and feeding program open, especially now as we are
entering the winter months. My sincere thanks to all who worked so hard under a tight timeline to meet
these needs.
Community Services receives
King County grant
Earlier this week, King Council Councilmember Dave

Activity Center to present a $10,000 grant to the city’s
Community Services Department for specialized recreation
programs.
RENTON YOUTH SYMPHONY IS 30
The Renton Youth Symphony
Orchestra is a fixture in our
community, having turned 30 in
2016. They will close out the year
with a concert this Sunday at Carco
Theatre at 3 p.m. The non-profit
was created to give talented young
musicians opportunities to play in
a full orchestra under the direction
of a professional conductor.
