Seems like yesterday that Kaiser Permanente broke ground on their new campus. Phase I opened in late
2016 and currently houses over 2,000 employees. Two more buildings are scheduled to be built.
I am extremely
proud that Renton
has become a center
of healthcare in the
northwest. Over
4,100 employees
work for three well-
known national and
regional healthcare
providers that call
Renton home, a
number that would
rank as the city’s
second-largest single
employer behind
only The Boeing
Company.
Kaiser Permanente
Health Plan of
Washington occupies a state-of-the-art campus on the former Longacres site that will eventually
consist of four buildings built in two phases. Phase I opened two buildings in November 2016 and will
host around 2,200 employees by the end of this summer.
Providence St. Joseph Health currently has 1,400 employees at its 12-acre campus near IKEA. They are
the third-largest nonprofit health system in the United States.
Completing our “big three” is UW Medicine/Valley Medical Center. They have been our leader in
healthcare since 1957 and currently employ over 2,500 people. Their campus is expanding to meet
demand by adding a 1,100-stall parking garage and, later this year, a 160,000-square-foot medical office
building.
The impact of these industry leaders on our economy is not just limited to their physical presence. They
have inspired several specialized healthcare providers and manufacturers to call Renton home.
Renton recognized as a center of healthcare
UW Medicine/Valley Medical Center will build a medical office building later
this year. They are currently constructing a parking garage.
Anti-graffiti initiative is working
Renton’s Wipe Out Graffiti initiative contnues to show success. The
report for June shows a 47 percent decrease in activity from one year
ago.
Graffiti has a negative impact on Renton by portraying our community
as unsafe. We’ve asked both residents and business owners to be
diligent about reporting graffiti immediately by calling 9-1-1 or
425-430-7373.
We also offer a $300 reward for those who report information that
leads to the arrest and conviction of anyone caught tagging property
of any kind within the city limits. I think we can all agree nothing good
comes from graffiti in our city. Please help us reduce it even more.

River Days presented by IKEA, starting this Friday
and running through Sunday. From the parade to
the Rubber Duck Derby, River Days showcases our
city’s passion for music, art, food, and each other.
An event of this magnitude could not be
