Subject: City of Renton - Required Open Public Meetings Act Training

Board/Commission member and Council,
Effective July 1, 2014 every member of the governing body or public agency(City of Renton) must complete Open Public
Meetings Act training within 90 days of taking the oath of office (if required) or assuming his or her duties as a public
official. Additionally, refresher training is required at intervals of no more than four years as long as the individual is a
member of the governing body or public agency(RCW 42.30.205). Washington State Attorney General Opinion 1986
No. 16 defines"governing body"to include committees appointed by the governing body. Therefore,the City of Renton
is interpreting that this regulation applies to all boards and commission members.
In order to comply with this regulation we are requesting that all Councilmembers and boards and commission members
view a short training video provided by the Attorney General's Office. Please click on the following link:
http://rentonwa.gov/government/default.aspx?id=8306 and select Lesson 1—Open Public Meetings Act.
Additionally, please fill out the attached Certificate of Training upon completion, checking the box for the correct
training video you viewed,and return the signed form by mail, email,or fax to me no later than December 15,2014: '
