This tragedy is particularly distressing since one of the victims is the brother of Renton police officer Cassidy Steed. “My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the 19 brave firefighters who died in the line of duty as they tried to save the homes of people in their community,” said Mayor Law. “This tragedy touches us especially hard here in Renton as we mourn the loss with Officer Cassidy Steed and his family. I have authorized that all flags at City Hall and our fire stations be lowered to half staff.” The memorial service for the 19 Firefighters is scheduled on Tuesday July 9, in Prescott Valley, Arizona. The city is supporting the Washington Fire Chiefs who issued this request to fire departments and districts throughout the state. Flags will remain at half staff in Renton until 8:00 a.m., July 10. ##
