Statement from Mayor Denis Law Urging New Contract between Boeing
and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers
“It's imperative that we do everything possible to assure that the aerospace industry
remains strong in our region now and in the future. The action taken by Governor Inslee
and the legislature last week is a significant commitment by the state to meet this
objective. The next major hurdle is achieving agreement between the International
Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) District 751 and the Boeing
Company, a critical component to assure that the 777x and wing assemblies are built in
our state. A positive outcome tomorrow will ensure that Boeing can continue to invest
in new products and services, creating jobs and career opportunities for current and
future employees here in Washington. I am hopeful that Boeing employees will ratify
the long-term contract extension on Wednesday.”
