HomeMy WebLinkAbout092614_BestFest FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 26, 2014 Free Renton BestFest to screen 9 films from Washington Multicultural Film Festivals and the winners of Crash Cinema competitions on October 11 CARCO Theatre in Renton will be the place to be for film lovers on Saturday, October 11, as Renton presents the free BestFest, which features a screening of the top films from Washington Multicultural Film Festivals and the winners of Crash Cinema Competitions around the State. “The Renton BestFest is a tremendous opportunity to celebrate top Washington filmmakers,” commented Ben Andrews, Renton Municipal Arts Commission member, BestFest organizer and member of reelRenton. A total of nine films will be shown from 7 – 10 p.m. at CARCO Theatre, which is located at 1717 SE Maple Valley Highway in Renton. There is no admission charge. Schedule to be screened are: Crash Cinema Competition Films 50 Hour Slam, Spokane 48 Hour Film Festival, Seattle North Bend Amateur Film Challenge, North Bend Renton FilmFrenzy, Renton Multicultural Film Festivals Films Langston Hughes African American (two films) Seattle South Asian Film Festival Seattle Latino Film Festival Seattle Asian American Film Festival Andrews said that the screenings will include a discussion with the filmmakers and the audience. He also noted that this year’s first BestFest is an outgrowth of the popular Renton FilmFrenzy, which is a 50-hour filmmaking competition set from October 3-5. Last year 25 filmmakers participated and competed for $1,700 in prizes. Registration for the 2014 FilmFrenzy closes on September 30. The Renton FilmFrenzy and BestFest are sponsored by the Renton Community Marketing Campaign, which includes the Renton Chamber of Commerce, Renton School District, UW Medicine/Valley Medical Center, Renton Technical College, Renton Visitors Connection and the City of Renton, with the support of the Renton Municipal Arts Commission and 4Culture. “The film scene in Renton is hot and these two efforts are just a part of a month long series of terrific film events in Renton,” Andrews said.
