New Art Installation in Downtown Renton
Renton High School Student’s Art Displayed Utilizing Film on City Utility Box
RENTON: A new public art installation in downtown Renton has turned a city utility box into a vivid
display of color and geometric shapes. “Chroma,” the artwork of Jason Vo, a recent Renton High
School graduate, was selected from 13 designs submitted by students in the Renton High School Video
Production and Visual Communications program. His design was favored for its array of colors, ability
to capture the attention of by both drivers and pedestrians, and its overall simplicity. Vo’s inspiration
for the design was the diverse community that makes up Renton High School, as represented through
the artwork’s variety of colors and utilizing diamond shapes to symbolize that each race is a treasure.
The artwork’s colors also represent the three high schools in the Renton School District.
Designed to beautify the downtown area, the utility box is located at South 3rd Street and Burnett
Avenue South. The material in which it is wrapped is a new technology developed for beautification
and graffiti-proof applications produced and installed by TrafficWrapz (www.TrafficWrapz.com). The
project was funded by the Renton Community Marketing Campaign, which was launched in 1997. Its
mission is to collectively market the Renton community to recruit quality companies and diversify
Renton's employment base. For this project, the campaign members are helping to improve the
