Mayor Appoints Kelly Beymer as Community Services Administrator
RENTON, WA – Mayor Denis Law has appointed Kelly Beymer as the administrator for the City
of Renton’s Community Services Department. Terry Higashiyama, the department’s current
administrator, will be retiring in February 2016, and Beymer will take over following her
retirement. The appointment will be presented to the Renton City Council for confirmation
later this month.
Beymer has served as the city’s Parks and Golf Course Director since 2008. She will oversee the
city’s community services functions including parks planning and maintenance, recreation,
human services, neighborhood resources and events, the Renton History Museum and
municipal facilities management. She will work with key stakeholders to enhance the quality of
life, vitality, and livability for the Renton community. She will serve on the Mayor’s executive
team and be responsible for providing vision, leadership, initiative, management, and
coordination to implement the Mayor and City Council's goals.

During the time that Beymer served as the city’s Parks and Golf Course Director, she
established a new division in the Community Services department. She was instrumental in
Maplewood Golf Course earning the Audoban Cooperative Sanctuary Certification,
renegotiating a 30-year lease for Gene Coulon Park with the Department of Natural Resources,
implementing the trail ranger program and developing the city’s park expulsion ordinance. She
has supervised staff for various citywide programs including capital projects, community
celebrations and festivals, development plans and citywide initiatives. Beymer formerly served
as the General Manager of the Maplewood Golf Course from 2002 to 2008. Beymer has an
Associate of Arts degree from Highline Community College, Des Moines, Washington, and
additional college credits in Psychology from St. Martin’s College, Lacey, Washington. She lives
in Maple Valley, Washington with her husband Jim, two children and six grandchildren .
